What do you get when you combine a published male fiction writer, an actor/producer with a background in comedy, and an Afghan-Canadian director? You get an intimately funny and poignant look into the dysfunctional life of a 32 year old virgin. Beautiful Gem Productions presents ONE NIGHT by Brandon Pitts & Angela C. Brown at The George Ignatieff Theatre as part of the Toronto Fringe Festival July 6-15, 2012. Tickets are available beginning June 15 by telephone at 416-966-1062, via www.fringetoronto.com (ext.1), or at the door.

Penny, a 32-year-old plus-sized woman has had enough of being a virgin and all the assumptions and labels that come with it.  Unhappy with her life in general, she finds herself at a bar searching for an answer. ONE NIGHT is a funny and poignant look at a person’s desire to fit into a sexually charged society.

ONE NIGHT is written by novelist and poet Brandon Pitts (Puzzle of Murders, Pressure to Sing) and actor and Second City Conservatory grad Angela C. Brown (George A Romero’s Survival of the Dead; Being Erica; The Love Guru). Directed by 2011 Best-of-Fringe winner Shaista Latif (ELLAmentary – the play is also nominated for a 2012 Canadian Comedy Award; Beyond the Moors, Annex Theatre; Welcome to Town, Bad Dog), ONE NIGHT features co-playwright Angela C. Brown as Penny. 2011 Best-of-Fringe winner Nick Stojanovic (Love, Virtually, Working Title Artists Company), Sangeeta Wylie (Paul and Priya’s Wedding; WILDsound Festival; Three Sisters), Rachel Moase (Marion Bridge; The Blue Room; Little Women The Musical), Tanya Filipopoulos (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat; Faith), Chris Leveille (The Bench; Darcy & Bingley; The Gentleman’s Club), and Sean Delville Pratt (Intelligence, CBC; The 4400, USA Network)  round out the cast of ONE NIGHT.

Beautiful Gem Productions was founded by Angela C. Brown to create stories and productions for characters whose story might not otherwise be told. The company’s goal is to create theatre which explores something different and personal, to which many people can relate. Upcoming projects include a short film in which the main character is a bitter, overbearing older woman in her 50’s whose near death experience leads her to attempt to fix her relationship with her daughter. ONE NIGHT is Beautiful Gem’s first Fringe production.
